Obadiah Wilcoxson was born about 1648. His surname appears as Wilcox in some records, and his descendants used the shortened form of the name. He settled in Killingworth, Connecticut, removing before 1676 to East Guilford, which later became the town of Madison. He died there in 1713-14. He was made a freeman in 1672. His first wife was Mary, daughter of Michael Griswold. She was born at Wethersfield, Connecticut, January 28, 1650, and died at Killingworth, August 8, 1670.
Obadiah Wilcox married, second, by 1676, Lydia, daughter of Corporal John Alling of New Haven. She was born December 26, 1656. Her father's will, dated May 6, 1689, named his grandchildren, Ebenezer and Mary "Wilcocks." He married, third, Silence, daughter of Joseph Mansfield. She was born at New Haven, October 24, 1664. After her husband's death, she married, in 1719, George Chatfield, of Killingworth. Obadiah Wilcoxson (or Wilcox) was released from military training in November, 1694, because of lameness. His will was dated December 18, 1710, and proved November 1, 1714. It named his wife, Silence; son, Ebenezer, to whom he gave land in Durham; his son, John, who received land at Guilford; daughters, Mary, Mindwell, Jemima and Thankful; and mentioned sons, Obadiah and Timothy, deceased.
